2. Please that the ATP BBQ is Tuesday, June 9th! We will be having this with all 4 ATP classes and their families. GRADUATES eat free! :) We are asking for a $5 donation for any other student or family member who wishes to eat the provided lunch (to help us cover the cost!). $ for BBQ is due on Tuesday, June 2nd. The BBQ will be held at Harveston Park (covered patio, picnic area) from 10AM-noon.
3. Please note that the last 3 days of school are minimum days and we do NOT have late start on that last Monday.
4. My last day in class will be next Friday, May 29th. :( We are in full swing of the hiring process-- but a decision has not been made yet on who the new teacher will be. I'll keep you posted!

1. WHOOPS! I accidentally uploaded the calendar for April 2012! Can I claim pregnancy brain on this one?! The correct link is now available!
2. I wanted to share that one of our 1-on-1 aids, Mr. Evan, will have his last day with up on Friday, March 27th. Mr. Evan is just about finished with his degree and is moving into a position outside of the district. He has been with us for 3 1/2 years and will be missed! However, we're excited for him and the opportunities ahead!

Our group had a phenomenal first week back! Some struggled more than others getting back in the routine but we were also greeted by so many smiles and giggles! I think our group is happy to be back!

1. We had a BUSY end of the week! Our class parties always wear us out than our regular schedule! :)
2. We had a surprise visit from Santa in our class today... so special! Several of the kiddos really enjoyed that!
3. Our January 2015 calendar has been added! Please note that the first day back is, TUESDAY, Jan. 13th.
4. Nate was voted in as our Employee of the Month-- CONGRATS! Well deserved!!!!
5. Progress reports were sent home in backpacks yesterday. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Hello! Couple important things!
1. Wednesday-Friday are MINIMUM DAYS! This mean school hours are 8:30-10:30 each day
2. The forecast shows rain for Wednesday SO we will NOT be walking to Circle K that day. Instead, we will cancel Starbucks and go to Circle K on Thursday instead. Click HERE to access the calendar.

1. Tomorrow's trip to the library has been canceled. There is no bus available for us so instead, we will be walking to Target to do scavenger hunt and shopping and then Carl's Jr. for lunch.

1. We will be starting our next fundraiser SOON! We will be doing our annual sale with Popcorn Palace, just in time for the holidays!!! This has been a fantastic way for us to raiser money for our class-- we receive 50% of sales! HUGE!
2. Several parents have asked if we will take donations-- absolutely! We have a WISH LIST HERE that I update regularly and check donations can be made out to "Murrieta Mesa High School-ATP" if you'd like to help that way. :)
3. Just a reminder, students may wear Halloween costumes next THURSDAY the 30th for the party. Also, parents are invited to attend as well! Please contact me if you are coming so I can get you the address. I would like to ask that students not wear full costumes on Friday the 31st. :)

1. Temecula school district is hosting a TRANSITION FAIR next Monday, Oct. 13th. I went a few years back and it was very informative about the programs available in our community for adults with disabilities! They set up booths/tables for adult programs (after 22) and social rec. programs as well. CLICK HERE to view/print the flier. :)
2. Please note on our October Calendar that we will be having a Halloween party on Thursday, Oct 30th. Students may wear costumes if they wish that day!! :) If you would like them to purchase something to wear, you can send $ on the 16th when we visit a Halloween Store! I'm asking that we NOT wear costumes on Friday, Oct. 31st because I don't want them to distract from school objectives. BUT if kiddos would like to wear a festive shirt/socks/hair bows/decorate chair that's totally fun! We just don't want to go TOO BIG and crazy that day. Thanks for your understanding!! :)

Couple updates...
1. I found out last week that we have ZERO budget for our classroom this year. Needless to say, we'll have to do some more fundraising!! Please take the poll below to indicate your preference.
2. We will accept and plastic bottles you may have for our recycling program as well! This is a good way for us to bring in some $$$ and integrate a community component for a couple kiddos.
3. Every Friday students use their "Mesa Money" (earned for specific positive behaviors) to purchase items from our Student Store. This also serves as an opportunity for self advocacy (making a choice) as well as money exchange practice. If you would like to donate any (new or gently used) trinkets for our Student Store, that would also be greatly appreciated! Dollar Tree and Target bins are where we typically get our items. We've noticed that many of the students also love books and gravitate to those when available. :)

Next Tuesday the 26th is our annual ATP Meet and Greet fundraiser dinner at Pat & Oscar's in Temecula! Last year I LOVED THIS! We had a great turn out with classroom staff/families and students/families! And we made a little cash for our class in the process!
I will be arriving at Pat & Oscar's between 5:30-6 if you would like to meet up with me, my maniac 3 year old, and the rest of our group! The fundraiser however will be going on all day!
We will be sending home fliers tomorrow that you can hand out to friends/family. When dining at Pat & Oscar's just be sure to give the cashier the flier so we will be sure to get a percentage of the sale. :)

We had a fantastic first day back! It was soooooo great to see so many smiling faces again! Everyone seemed happy to start back (even the teachers!) ;)

WELCOME BACK for the 2014-15 school year!
Last year we had 3 students graduate and are welcoming 1 newcomer this year!
There was some remodeling done in our class over the summer; the 3 bathrooms were reconstructed to make 2 larger rooms. We are welcoming back the same instructional aids (hurray!) and at this time have no plans to add on further...so you should be seeing a lot of the same smiling faces. :)
Some quick info:
1. Just a reminder that we will continue to do community based instruction (CBI) every Thursday as a class. The August calendar has been uploaded for you to view/print. :) CLICK HERE. Students will also have AT LEAST 1 additional community activity during the week (typically to Target or Albertsons) to do shopping for the classroom, sensory activities, and scavenger hunt. I'll keep you posted on individual student schedules. :)
2. If you are planning on having your kiddo buy lunch from the cafeteria, you can access Nutrition Services page by CLICKING HERE. Free/reduced meal forms must be completed at the beginning of each year.
3. Things that would be GREAT if your kiddo could bring to school:
-New Toothbrush
-Wallet/purse
-Spiral notebook
-Box of tissues
If you aren't able to do this-- don't sweat it! Or if you would rather your kiddo buy their own supplies we can certainly take them to Target on a community day to purchase any needed items. :)
4. I've added on a new page to this site, "Currently...," where you can view what we've been up to! :)
There is also a class WISH LIST if you would like to help out with any of the other wants/needs of the class.
5. Again, I plan to send very little home in student backpacks. Most of the class info will be posted here or through REMIND text message system. 2. Reminder, ATP promotion is Tuesday the 10th at 10AM in the performing arts center at Mesa. Everyone is welcome (and encouraged!) to attend! There will be a pizza luncheon immediately following the ceremony. GRADUATES EAT FREE! There is a $5 cost for all other students, family members, and district personnel. Cafeteria lunches will still be available for student who do not want to purchase lunch. Regardless, all students will be present and able to participate with their peers.
Money is due THIS THURSDAY the 29th for the luncheon! THANKS! :)

Our 1st semester fundraising has helped keep our class going and purchased an awesome porch swing for our outdoor patio area. Our Popcorn Palace fundraiser has given us the opportunity to purchase 2 new switch-adapted items! The first is a garden sprayer and the other a remote control bus.
I am SO THANKFUL for all your support this year! From washing cars, to selling tickets, to Pampered Chef orders, and Popcorn orders....it's so appreciated. But most of all, thank you for the constant encouragement! All of us working and collaborating is making a difference. So thank you, thank you, thank you!!! <3

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who completed the SEPAC surveys. There were so many kind words written about the classroom, myself, and the instructional assistants. On Monday, we went to an event at the DSC where nominated personnel were recognized and shown appreciation. It meant a lot to our crew! Thank you for your continual support-- we are so thankful to be working with these kiddos and their amazing families! <3

4. We will be having ONE MORE fundraiser for the year. When we return in April we will start our Popcorn Palace fundraiser. This was a huge hit a couple years ago. Our class receives 50% of the $ brought in...HUGE!!!! My hope was that we could start sooner and have orders by Easter but I didn't plan soon enough. Sorry!
5. The back space behind our classroom is scheduled to be cleaned out over spring break (It currently looks like it's being used as a dumpster). I'm excited to get that space set up so our kiddos can utilize it! Thank you for all the fundraising support this year to make it possible! I'll keep you all posted as we make progress in transforming our patio. :)

Hello! I am happy to be back from my maternity leave--- sure missed everyone! I am super happy to report that Ms. Erin truly did a phenomenal job while I was out. The program structure stayed consistent, goals were addressed, data was taken, morale is still UP! I really couldn't be more pleased!

Hello! Just a reminder that my last day is this Friday, November 8th!!! I 100% intend on returning in January (after winter break). I'm excited to officially announce that Ms. Erin Emde is covering my maternity leave. She has subbed in our class as an aid several times over the years, she has been the resident substitute teacher at Murrieta Valley for the last two years, and has recently completed a long-term substitute position for another SDC teacher on maternity leave. She is a college graduate with lots of personal experience, on top of the professional experience. I feel extremely confident in her abilities to lead and manage the classroom while I'm out. A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported our carwash by selling tickets and bringing in donations. A huge thanks to Nate and Matt's families for scrubbing up vehicles with us on Saturday! Also, the aids in the class who gave up their Saturday to volunteer time and energy...that's some major dedication to our students! Check out the "Pictures" page :)

We earned $767 through this fundraiser! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found that I had a TON of friends and family who ordered and supported our class just by my posting on Facebook a couple of times! You can imagine my surprise when I saw MY KINDERGARTEN TEACHER had supported us with an order!

Important update from the Special Education department!!! There is a Parent/guardian Input Meeting on Monday, October 21st from 6-7:30 at Buchanan Elementary School. Your input is VERY important as we are going through the state-review process. It seems we are never in short supply for criticism and those less satisfied with their child's education are quicker to speak up. However, I know many of you have had positive experiences as well and we really need that positive feedback too-- not just a one-sided district bashing. ;) Please see the attachment for more information on this important event HERE. This should have already gotten to you in the mail...hopefully! I know the date says to return by the 15th-- but really anytime ASAP is still fine! I will send home a copy of the survey tomorrow as well in back packs.

I wanted to update everyone on the status of my maternity leave. I had an appointment yesterday, and due to the circumstances of my pregnancy, I will be working up until November 8th. I have already let district and site administration know, and I know HR had a few teachers in mind to take my place. I will let you know the outcome and who my sub will be ASAP. I do plan to return after winter break!!!

*Getting nervous! Our carwash fundraiser is THIS Saturday, October 19th from 8-1. So far we have ZERO volunteers from our ATP families....EEEK! Please let me know if you're planning on helping out so I can sleep at night. ;) If you're only available for an hour or two, that's ok too!
* Our class is bowling this Thursday. The cost is $3 per person. If you are able to donate to help cover the cost, it would be appreciated! All students will be able to participate, regardless. :)
*Every year, Murrieta Mesa hosts a "Share the Harvest" event/meal. It's HUGE! Please see the attached flier for more info. Maybe you're in a position where you would like to donate your time to volunteer or send in food items for those in need. We have a donation box set up in class to collect food items as they arrive. If you are in a position where you and your family could benefit from this service, please know that it is free and available to you on November 23rd! CLICK HERE for more info.

Several things....
- Fundraiser envelops were sent home today for our ATP carwash. Please let me know if you have any questions on this!
- Ms. Breezy, our part time aid and bus driver, has already sold 20 carwash tickets (that's $140 raised)! WOW! Thanks Ms. Breezy!!!!
- I will be out tomorrow (Thursday) due to a scheduled, long dr. appointment. I'll be back on Friday. :)
- Thank you to everyone who sent pictures for the "me collages"-- so cool! We are still finishing them up! But we have finished reading Judy Moody and have moved on to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which makes for some fun, candy themed, art projects just in time for Halloween).
- We are in desperate need of wipes! We have lots of sticky fingers at the lunch tables! Any extras you are able to send in would be appreciated. :)

The October calendar has been added! :) Please note that we will be doing a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, October 19th! If you know high school students who need community service hours and would like to help out please let me know! We are asking for help from staff, students, and families to sell tickets for the event! Our goal is to get every student/family to sell FIVE tickets. At $7 a piece, this would help us raise $350 for out class! Tickets and $ envelops will be sent home next week. :)

HEEEEEEEEEELP! Our fundraiser is this Thursday at Pat & Oscars in Temecula! Please, please, please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbors, total strangers too :) They will need to give THIS FLIER to the cashier at time of purchase. The fundraiser is open ALL DAY. I will be there with my kiddo and several aids and their families will be there too between 5-:630. We'd love if we could get as many ATP families out there together as possible. :) Can't stay? Holy moly! Today was an eye-opening experience in our community based instruction! Many of our students do NOT tolerate trying on clothes or even indicating a preference/making a choice for clothing purchase. ATP as a whole, for MVUSD, is focusing this month on clothing shopping skills and collaborating on how to make this a more meaningful, tolerable, learning experience. As a little "homework assignment" ;) do some extra practice with your kiddos when you're out shopping too and let me know how it goes! It'll be interesting to see what type of progress we will see in a month from now. :) We'll be doing lots and lots of practice here as well!

#1- September 18th we will be taking pictures for student ID cards here at Mesa. Just heads up incase anyone wants to look exceptionally beautiful or handsome that day. ;)
#2- Our class collects cans and bottles for recycling! Most bus drivers are pretty great about allowing a trash bag with recyclables to be sent to school. :) Just 1 more way we try to provide funds to the classroom. Thanks in advance for any recyclable donations :)

I wanted to send a quick update regarding our weekly CBI in regards to the heat. In our district we have 1 bus that can accommodate our 7 students who use wheelchairs. Unfortunately today, I did not learn until we were ready to leave that the air conditioning on the bus is broken! Needless to say it was a very warm and uncomfortable ride for everyone. I met with the powers-that-be this afternoon to see what accommodations can be made to resolve this concern. In the mean time, if we find ourselves in a similar situation-- I will make a last minute decision to cancel our scheduled CBI activity for the health of our student population. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this change! And as always, I will communicate with you via text or website of any changes. :)

3. Listen to teachers the 1st time
4. Always do your best!
* So if random trinkets make their way home on Fridays, it's safe to assume they have been earned/purchased. :)

All of our students participate in functional vocational skills at some level. Anytime they participate in on or off campus "jobs" they can be eligible to fill out a time card and receive minimum wage for at least a portion of their time. MVUSD receives a Workability Grant that allows us to pay students for their work (usually allotting up to 4 hours of pay per month). It is entirely optional on whether or not you wish to pursue this option for payment. Please let me know if you would like a Workability Packet sent home for your kiddos! It is a bit of process (usually takes a month+ to process and is a thick packet)-- however once it is done it last forever. You do not need to renew annually by filling out packets repeatedly. Many students and their families (especially in the other ATP classes) feel that the time/energy put into the completion is worth it-- just for the extra bit of $ that can help support any additional community based instruction. Other students, it teaches responsibility with $ and they use it as tool for practicing budgeting skills. We are off to an AMAZING start! I am so excited about our students this year and am looking forward to seeing their progress-- there is so much potential in this room! I am also happy to announce that we have been FULLY STAFFED with a great crew and we have already had "HELLO!" visits from 4 different administrators. If your child is scheduled to work at the Big Cheese, please note that this has already changed!!! The restaurant is under renovation and is not due to reopen until October. :( SO I am currently in contact with our job developer to see what we have available as a replacement site. This could be something different for each student. I will keep you posted on the progress with this little hiccup. :)

Want to see what it's all about before your child's big day? Come out for the event (no tickets needed)! Monday, June 10th @ 7PM @ Murrieta Mesa High School, performing arts building. The ceremony is only about 45 minutes long. ALSO you are all invited to meet at Maxx's Pizza (across the street from City Hall) prior to the ceremony 5PM-6:30, $10 large 1-topping pizzas.

It's official! Our PAMPERED CHEF fundraiser is scheduled for May 9th @ 3:00 in our classroom @ Murrieta Mesa! Your support in attending this event is HUGELY appreciated. The money rasied goes directly back to our classroom! With regular cooking, art, and sensory activities it takes a lot of $ to keep us running! My dream is to also purchase some other needed assistive technology equipment for the classroom. Packets and ordering info will be sent your way as soon as I receive it. :) Thank you in advance for your support and hope to see everyone here on the 9th!

TALENT SHOW!!!! A general education student here at Mesa approached me about a week ago. He is going to be playing a Bon Jovi song in the upcoming talent show. He wants to incoporate students from special education classes and give them an opportunity to shine. His vision is to have our kiddos on stage with him, "playing" blow-up guitars and/or dancing. Please contact me if you would like to have your child participate in this unique experience. :)

Count down to spring break! After this week, students will have 2 weeks off and return April 8th.
Check out our MEET THE STAFF page-- we are welcoming Ms. Kayla to the team every Mon, Wed, and Friday. Yay! ms. Kayla has been filling in as a regular go-to-sub for the last year. We are excited to have her in our class on a regular basis!
More PICTURES have also been added under the "More" tab. If you're OK with having pictures posted of your ATP kiddo, let Mrs. Duffy know! We would love to have pictures up of all of our students. :)

Today our class visited Shakey's in Temecula. I wanted to share that it was a super positive experience! The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and accomodating. :)

LOTS going on in our class with so many holidays approaching!
1st: We are collecting food items for the Share the Harvest (Thanksgiving feast and care packages for families in need). Frozen turkeys, boxed stuffing and instant potatoes, canned goods (green beans, corn, olives, cranberry sauce).
2ndly: We are starting our first fundraiser of the year!!! We are teaming up with POPCORN PALACE! Our classroom will receive 50% of the sales-- that's HUUUUUGE! Stay tuned for more info!
3rdly: We had a great time shopping at Lowes and Kohl's last week and buying Christmas gifts for children in need! It's such a great learning experience for our kiddos to give back. :)

Hello! I returned to the classroom after my unexpected medical leave. I will be out tomorrow for a couple hours. Unfortunately, a loved classmate, who graduated ATP in June, and student of mine for 3 years passed away last week. I will be attending his memorial service tomorrow, Click here to view Bryan's obituary.

Hello! I wanted all to know that I was out on Thursday and Friday for unexpected medical leave. I am back in the classroom today! Due to my absence, the Thursday outing to Hobby Lobby and the park was canceled/postponed. I will be rescheduling the activity for October. Thanks!

If you are unable to provide any of the items, please let Mrs. Duffy know and she will make arrangements. There is also an overall class wish-list page :)

As you know, due to the water damage in our building ATP will begin on Monday, August 27th. This is a late start day as well.
Just a heads up on caferia meals- Mondays and Tuesdays only PB&J and Turkey subs are available for entres. Wednesday-Fridays students have a choice between pizza, PB&J, and the daily special (which can be found on the Nutritional Services link).

Hello! Please see the changes on the calendar. Transportation was unable to provide bussing for Community Based Instruction (CBI) the first week of school, thus the change. This calendar is different than the one mailed home (so please disregard that one!).

As of the 2012-2013 school year, all ATP classes will be following the high school late start and minimum day calendar. Late starts are ALMOST EVERY MONDAY. School begins at 9:45 and dismisses at 12:45. Any minimum day, ATP begins at 8:30 and dismisses at 10:00. See the district calendar for a complete list of dates.
